Site Services

DETOUR GOLD, DETOUR LAKE MINE

The Detour Lake Mine is a gold mine located approximately 8km west of the Ontario-Québec border and 180km north-east of Cochrane, accessible by road via Provincial Highway 652 extension.

The Detour Lake Mine site lies within the premises of the former Detour Lake mine that was operated between 1983 and 1999 by Placer Dome and produced 1.8 million ounces of gold. The property was acquired by Detour Gold in 2006. Construction on the project began in January 2011 and reached commercial production in 2013. Detour Lake Project supported a 1000+ worker construction camp through its construction phase and currently accommodates its 800+ employees.

DEBEERS CANADA, VICTOR MINE

The Victor Mine is a remote fly-in, fly-out diamond mine located in the James Bay Lowlands of northern Ontario, approximately 90 km west of the coastal community of Attawapiskat First Nation.

The Victor Mine is Ontario’s first diamond mine. It is an open-pit mine and is one of 18 kimberlite pipes discovered on the property, 16 of which are diamondiferous. Construction of the Victor Mine began in 2006 and reached commercial production in 2008 (six months ahead of schedule). Victor Project supported a 800+ worker construction camp through its construction phase.

Indigenous Relations

The Musselwhite Mine is a fly-in, fly-out gold mine in northwestern Ontario on the southern shore of Opapimiskan Lake, about 480 kms north of Thunder Bay, Ontario. An all-weather road connects the mine to the community of Pickle Lake, about 200 km to the south.

The Musselwhite property is 17,548 hectares, entirely on First Nations land. Since its first commercial production in April 1997, the mine has produced more than 4 million ounces of gold. Currently owned by Goldcorp Canada Ltd., it is one of the largest gold mines in Canada and in the world.

Logistics & Materials Management

AGRIUM, KAPUSKASING PHOSPHATE OPERATIONS

Agrium is a major retail supplier of agricultural products in North and South America. It produces and markets three primary groups of nutrients: nitrogen, phosphate and potash, as well as controlled-release fertilizers and micronutrients.

For more than a decade, Agrium’s open-pit phosphate mine operation in Kapuskasing has been supplying high-quality phosphate rocks to the company’s Redwater facility in Alberta. Agrium closed the operation for economic reasons and commenced decommissioning the property in 2014.
